NWE PTC

Northwestern Elementary

PTC Meeting

May 6, 2010

President Nikki Luebke started the meeting at 4:00 p.m. in the library.

No additions or corrections were made to the April minutes.  Therefore, they are approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT:

(Report received by email) The monthly report remained basically untouched.  Once the Scholastic bill was paid we were left with a slight deficit, but nothing like originally thought.  The final Spring fundraiser bill has not cleared yet for an accurate total income from the sale as well as more yearbook deposits which will rectify those balances.

Old business:

Family Fun Night:  A “Go Green” Night is scheduled for May 12th from 6 to 8 p.m. and will replace the carnival night.  This event will be done similar to the carnival night with lots of hands-on activities and “green” related prizes.  Anyone wishing to volunteer, help will be needed for set-up, the event and clean up.  Please contact Nikki Luebke if you can assist.

FALL Fundraiser:   Beth Hough and Mindy Albert have agreed to co-chair this project which will be the same as last year (Creative Sales).  Jackie DeMichele reported  that all checks from parents have now been cleared from the Spring fundraiser.

5th Grade Send-off:  This committee has met and is pleased with the number of parents who have expressed an interest to assist in the planning and the events of the actual day.  The next meeting is set for Monday, May 10th at 1:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room.  If you are interested in being involved, please contact Jackie DeMichele or Diana Moyer.

Administrative Professional’S Day:  Bobbie Peters, Kathy Duda and Teresa Black were all presented with Mall-wide gift certificates in beautiful cards which expressed our appreciation of everything they have done for the PTC.  The ladies were very grateful for our thoughts to them and appreciated our taking the time to recognize them.

Teacher Appreciation DAY:  The teachers applauded us for remembering their special day and stated their appreciation of the food which was available to them.  They expressed that if this were to continue each year, that food is always welcome…the healthy choices and the not so healthy choices as well!

New Business:

Mother’s Day Flower Sale:  This year’s sale is scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, May 7th.  Volunteers are welcome.  The sale will be taking place up near the Corder Gym with the classes scheduled to come throughout the day.

PROJECT SMART:  Mindy Albert and Susanne Lawrence are the new co-chairs of this event and they will be scheduling a meeting for next week to get started with this event.  Mrs. Froess and Mrs. Edwards have offered their assistance in this program which will make for a great event.  Look for information to be coming soon.

WALDAMEER TICKETS:  Orders will be taken from May 3rd through May 26th with tickets on sale for $14 per person.  Angie Sanden will process all of the orders on May 26th and send the tickets home with the children at that time.

Continuous programs:

BOX TOPS:   Angie Sanden reported that $3,189.60 was our grand total for this year (March 1, 2009 to February 28, 2010).  The new year has officially started and already 4,000 box tops have been collected.

APPLES FOR STUDENTS:  Angie Sanden reported that we earned 742 total points for this year.  With those points we received a flip-video digital camera and a Cannon camcorder.  Mr. Ball with keep these items for the teachers to sign out and use.  We also received a giant die-cut puzzle.

TERRACYCLE:  At our last meeting it was believed that the glitch that was holding up our payment from Terracycle had been resolved.  However, at this meeting Angie Sanden reported that she is still waiting for their check.  Angie was given permission to pursue this with Mr. Trimble then the District Justice if necessary.  Angie still has multiple items at her home waiting to be sent in when the issue is resolved.

Campbell’s Soup Labels:  Mindi Homan reported that she is awaiting word from Sandy Pavolko that the current batch of labels has been processed.  Once again, a pizza party is being planned for those students for all of their efforts in helping us with this program.  Mindi also informed us that Campbell’s has a Summer promotion where they will cut, count and sort the labels for us and she will send any remaining labels for this program in order to not create a backlog for the start of next year.

YEARBOOK:  Diana Moyer reported that the yearbooks were delivered on Tuesday, May 4th and that any extras are going fast.  At this time there are only 35 books remaining.  These books can be purchased by bring $11 in cash to Bobbie Peters and she will then give you your book.  Thanks to all of the wonderful mothers who assisted with the book this year.  You did a great job!

OFFICER ELECTIONS:  Nikki Luebke was nominated to maintain her role as President by Diana Moyer which was seconded by Mindy Albert and agreed to overwhelmingly by the members in attendance.  Susanne Lawrence was nominated by Mindy Albert for the position of Vice President which was seconded by Diana Moyer and also agreed to by the members.  Mindy Albert was nominated for the position of Secretary by Mindi Homan and seconded by Susanne Lawrence.  This was also overwhelmingly approved by the members.  Congratulations to these new officers.  Heather Fawcett expressed an interest (through Chris Porter) in being co-treasurer for the upcoming year.  However, an actual Treasurer has not been found as of yet.  It was explained to those in attendance that the PTC is not able to continue as per it’s by-laws without all four positions being filled.  Therefore, the office of Treasurer has been tabled until the July meeting.  At this time, if a Treasurer has not been secured, it will be necessary to disband the PTC which would be terrible.  Many of the extra activities that your children are involved with some of which include field trips, assemblies, Santa’s Workshop,  yearbook, playground equipment and family fun events would not be possible.  Please consider giving to this worthwhile group.  If every parent could give even two hours of their time each year, then a small group would not have to give so much.  It would truly be a detriment if the current and future children of Northwestern Elementary School could not benefit from the wonderful programs of the PTC.

Mr. Trimble’s Report:

Mr. Trimble was not in attendance at this meeting and no information was forwarded for us.

OTHER QUESTIONS, CONCERNS, IDEAS:

Mrs. Froess and Mrs. Stickle spoke to the members regarding a new parent library which will be housed inside the elementary library in a special section.  Approximately forty books are available through Dr. Miller as resources for parents to help their children with various subjects from helping with homework, bullying, home lessons, IEPs and various other ways to help your children.  The books will be available Monday through Friday during regular school hours and can be checked out from Mr. Maracci or Mrs. Esther Pavolko.  These resources will continue to grow and parent recommendations for titles should go to Mrs. Froess, Mrs. Stickle or Dr. Miller.

The teachers thanked Susanne Lawrence and her committee for the seedlings that were presented to the 3rd, 4th and Kindergarten students for Earth Day/Arbor Day.  The children were very pleased with their trees.  Hopefully, this can be an annual event for the 3rd grade students who have a lesson planned around this day.

Nikki concluded the meeting by reminding parents/teachers of the recall on children’s Motrin, Tylenol, and various other medications. Please check out the internet for specifics before giving your child any medication.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:45 p.m.

Next meeting:  Thursday, July 8, 2010, at 12:00 p.m. in the pavilion.
